Who we have helped

CSA has been involved in the climate change arena for a long time. We acted as World Secretariat for the development of ISO 14064, an international standard for carbon management. We measure, monitor and report our own carbon footprint.

Our advisory services team has also helped organizations and governments with their carbon performance programs, plans and goals. Some of our recent activities include:

  • Participating in technical committee work for the Western Climate Initiative on the establishment of GHG inventory and offset frameworks and protocols.
  • Providing technical advice to GreenStream Network as the Carbon Manager under the Multilateral Carbon Credits Fund aiming at securing 9Mt of Kyoto Protocol JI and CDM credits in Eastern Europe.
  • Assisting the government of Manitoba in developing the GHG inventory and reporting framework pursuant to The Climate Registry. More than 43 US States, eight Mexican States and all Canadian provinces are members of this US-based organization. CSA has recently briefed provincial representatives on the draft reporting framework and on future prospects of The Climate Registry.
  • Helping the government of Alberta in reviewing the process leading to the development and approval of quantification protocols acceptable for offsets under the Alberta Emission Reductions Act, as well as providing training to GHG inventory verifiers to ensure higher level of confidence in GHG inventories generated by regulated entities under the Alberta Emission Reductions Act. CSA’s CleanProjects™ Registry is used as the back-end architecture to Climate Change Central’s Carbon Offsets Solutions website. The web site facilitates access to made-in-Alberta offsets for regulated facilities in that province. More than 1.6Mt of verified emission reductions were serialized during the 2007 compliance year.
  • Developing a web-based portal for the government of Manitoba to help project proponents develop and showcase GHG-reducing projects, give organizations the tools they need to assess and improve their carbon footprint and provide a meeting place for buyers and sellers to connect and exchange GHG credits.
  • Developing and delivering a comprehensive training package through an agreement with the government of Québec to help Québec-based small/medium enterprises (SMEs) better understand how carbon markets work, what are the trends regarding supply, demand and price, how to develop and showcase emission reducing projects and how to generate and sell carbon credits.
  • Helping provinces like Alberta, Manitoba, Québec and New Brunswick calculate, track, verify and register emission-reducing projects that benefit from government funding. A growing number of provinces require projects to be registered under CSA’s CleanProjects™ Registry as a condition of funding.
